a hybrid orchid for sure as the colour of this is deep purple. waling-waling used to be found only in philippine forests and as such had spawned so many legends and folklores. one such legend was that a beautiful local princess fell in love with a handsome foreigner who was killed by a jealous rival. the datu or chieftain, the princess' father then arranged to have her married to the rival. but she loved the foreigner so much that she killed herself deep in the forest. they found her clothing and jewelry by the foot of a large tree where she and her lover used to meet. in the trunk of the massive tree, there grew a beautiful delicate flower that no one has ever seen before and they named it waling-waling in honour of the princess. or some such thing.
i can't finish the week's forms in nature without posting a flower, especially one as pretty as these.
