I made a double batch of red pepper jelly .... which only amounts to 8 small jars, which in turn is only about a third of what I need to keep everyone happy over the winter. Off to get some more supplies tomorrow to make some more.
This jar is sitting in the full afternoon sun, hence the warm glow of the jar but the glare on the shiny oak table. Oh, well.
The little witch is guarding the stash ---- symbolic of me, in the eyes of a few at least ..... lol
Many thanks for dropping by and for your ever so kind comments and favs .... it's been a great few days!
Laurie ... the jelly is normally darker than this. I used white balsamic vinegar this time and I think that's what made it so orangy red as opposed the usual plum shade of red. It tasted the same though.
We mostly eat red pepper jelly with cream cheese on crackers. Sometimes I have it with quiche or chicken. Mine usually has a bit of a kick to it --- the recipe calls for some jalapeno peppers. There's also a LOT of sugar and some balsamic and red wine vinegars, so it's quite a mixed bag ... @5unflow3r Thanks for dropping by Trina! Sure appreciate your support and comments/questions.
it's that time of the year. fundraising for united way and people will be donating their wares like red pepper jelly for our auction. love it with 'st. urbain's everything bagel'. hmmm. now i'm hungry.
@lynlong@shellbelle@kloud@jdonnelly Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to look and comment --- so appreciated! There's a lot of sugar in it so you'd think the first thought would be sweet but for me, it's zingy. In addition to red peppers, there's jalapeno peppers to spice things up, and also some red wine vinegar and balsamic vinegar. I often eat it with cream cheese on crackers or tiny crusty bread and the cream cheese helps "control" the hit of spicy pepper. It's good as a condiment with chicken, pork, quiche, etc. Someone above mentioned smoked salmon which I'll try for sure. It's an easy and popular appetizer at get-togethers and a nice hostess gift because it's popular but not the easiest thing to find in stores around here.
I love the beautiful glow of the jelly. I surely would like to taste it. I don't think I've ever had any. You conposition is wonderful and I like the little character you have guarding it.
Love this!!! The mystical feel of it is perfect and I love your little witch. I can not wait to make it myself. I think I will put my gargoyle Hugo in charge of guarding mine! My mom just asked me for your recipe for this today, and now I know why. Thank you for the tip about the vinegar. I have both, so I think I will use the dark balsamic.
Great shot I love the color, light and texture you created here. I love that jam you should share the recipe. I wish I were still in ON I would have to come and steal a jar of this from you heheeeee
I'll be making it soon. Thanks for the recipe. I didn't forget your tomato soup; I'm on the Cape for a couple of weeks but will send it as soon as I get home.
Great picture! And I love red pepper jelly although I've just bought it in the store but it was locally made. Would you have a recipe that you could share?
@carmichaelbev@lauriehiggins Oh wonderful....if you're both making some of this lovely jelly maybe I'll get to try it when I'm on the Cape or up to Vermont. Sounds delicious.
