Milkweed has served many purposes over the years - food, fibre, etc. Two specific purposes pop into mind: monarch caterpillar and butterfly food and .... bat-making with our grandson! I will dig out one of the bats we made and post a pic to show you!
@kloud hi bonnie! thanks for dropping by and commenting! they're fairly small compared to how large they look in this pic. a slightly shrivelled up one that we used for some art work spans about 4 or 5 keys on my lap top: " http://365project.org/sunnygreenwood/keepers/2011-10-14"
This is so beautiful! I really loved the bats you made with them too. I wish I could make one with my granddaughter! I'm missing her a ton these days. I Skyped with her for an hour while I made applesauce last night. I just set the laptop on the counter in the kitchen. I emailed you the muffin recipe!
Great shot - love the detail and texture!I had no idea what you meant about the bats so thank you for the link to a pic of one. I can see why children would simply love them lol!
i saw some of this at the parkette next to my building when i taught the grandsons to fly a kite. never seen them before and then walking around the beaches i saw a lot of them. last weekend on my walk at the beaches, they have all burst into something webby and they don't look too good, i started sneezing. i like milkweed but only when they're like this, not when they're matured.
