Art in Nature

Milkweed has served many purposes over the years - food, fibre, etc. Two specific purposes pop into mind: monarch caterpillar and butterfly food and .... bat-making with our grandson! I will dig out one of the bats we made and post a pic to show you!

update: ok, here's the link to a sample of our milkweed bats:

That is amazing. How big are they?

@kloud hi bonnie! thanks for dropping by and commenting! they're fairly small compared to how large they look in this pic. a slightly shrivelled up one that we used for some art work spans about 4 or 5 keys on my lap top: " http://365project.org/sunnygreenwood/keepers/2011-10-14"

This is so beautiful! I really loved the bats you made with them too. I wish I could make one with my granddaughter! I'm missing her a ton these days. I Skyped with her for an hour while I made applesauce last night. I just set the laptop on the counter in the kitchen. I emailed you the muffin recipe!

Gorgeous lighting in this shot! Our milkweed pods are all burst open and fluffy, so it's nice to see them whole!

Nice light and detail in this one. Mine are still up and I saw 5 Monarchs this past weekend, so I won't cut them down just yet.

i saw some of this at the parkette next to my building when i taught the grandsons to fly a kite. never seen them before and then walking around the beaches i saw a lot of them. last weekend on my walk at the beaches, they have all burst into something webby and they don't look too good, i started sneezing. i like milkweed but only when they're like this, not when they're matured.
