This is not the best bird pic I've taken but I'm throwing it in because it marks the first time this year we've seen the nuthatch's little greenish yellow buddy. It's similar in colours to a female evening grosbeak but smaller. Id anyone ? Edit: Trina, Shirley, Jann and Denise mention Goldfinch --- yup, I agree. It's an American Goldfinch. The males and females are almost identical in fall and winter but I think this one's a male because of the black in the wings [vs brown/black] and the bright yellow on the head] I posted another pic of it in my other album.

Many thanks for dropping by.
Cute little things! Look at the extra fluff on their backsides! Winter feathers?

They are so tiny when they are standing by the seeds. It's easy to see the comparison of their size. CUTE!

It could be a yellow-bellied warbler but would need to get out my field guides & I'm just on way out the door. I really think this is a beautiful shot. I wish I could capture my song birds like you do. I am a bird lover ;-)

Nice to get a pair of birds together esp. of different species. It is fun to watch the male finches regain their bright yellow in the spring.

Nice catch! Do you just put the seeds out on your deck railing? How do you keep the squirrels from eating them all ?

@timandelke Yes, just on the railing! We feed the squirrels too and if they hog too much we sic our 6 lb Maltese dog on them! You can see her in action just after the 2 minute point in this video: http://www.youtube.com/user/sunnygreenwood?feature=mhee#p/u/8/2ksW7YmPl8c
