This is the first Pine Siskin I've noticed on the deck this winter. There will probably soon be several more as they are very social birds. They build well concealed nests adjacent to each other in conifer trees, with only a few feet in between them.
Great closeup. I would have thought it to be a sparrow and fist glance. Now I know what a Pine Siskin is. Looks like it is a Northern bird and uncommon for the South.
@rosiekind thanks rosie! sure appreciate the fav! I can't change lenses on the camera i use but it does have a decent 24x zoom built in. The biggest factor is the volume of bird seed my husband puts out each morning! lol
@busylady Thanks Judith! The dark background is mainly trees set back from the deck with some photoshop to cover the snow on the branches. We've had so many dark dreary days, all my pics appear to be b&w with selective colouring but they're not. We're already 3 weeks into winter, just a couple of months to go!
Fabulous close up, Anne! I've never seen a Pine Siskin. I'm really enjoying all your birds and the info you share about them. The black background is very cool.
