Snowbird by sunnygreenwood

Snowbird

This is the tiny Hummingbird nest we found very close to the deck after the leaves fell in the fall. http://365project.org/sunnygreenwood/365/2011-11-03 . I'm really hoping it's re-occupied when the hummers return for the summer.

Many thanks for dropping by.
What an amazing discovery! I've never seen one and understand they are teeny, tiny..... Great catch and love the photo.

@allred my husband's idea for a title was along the lines of another snowbird gone south - great minds think alike. maybe i should change the title lol

I just love this picture! I have always wondered where the humingbirds nest. We have from two to six every summer but I've not found a nest. Your birds like you better!

Gorgeous comp! Do they re-use their nests? I hope someone will call it home!

@mwarren365 thanks Mike! it looks like b&w but it's just our life these days in the dead of winter with snow and dark days. the sun is just trying to peak through now so maybe we'll get a little colour ... ;-)

This is simply beautiful. I hope they do move back in come spring time. Nice that the nest is close to the house and somewhere you can get good shots. You'll have to set up a tripod and hope for some closeups.
January 25th, 2012
I hope they don't come back any time soon, to their snow covered nest! Great capture.
January 25th, 2012
Cool shot..how intricate those nests are..
January 25th, 2012
what a great shot. that nest looks very tiny, judging by the size of the branches. would they come back to the same nest? that would be awesome!
January 25th, 2012
closed for the season!
January 25th, 2012
A snow-cone in the nest! Poor little fellas.

Like a beautiful little textured cup holding snow! The whole composition is so delicate and lovely. What would you say that nest measured (approximately?)
January 25th, 2012
I love how it is holding the snow. I hope they come back too!
January 25th, 2012
Excellent Capture! One could imagine a snow bird egg sitting upon the nest! Hope the hummers do return too!

January 25th, 2012
Must be amazing to see them nest.
January 25th, 2012
I'm sure they will return, afterall, your house seems to be the place to go for all the birds in the neighborhood. I think you are well known by them.
January 26th, 2012
Amazing capture

I am amazed that the nest is still so intact after all of this time. It is nice to see how you have taken it through the seasons.

Wonderful pic, Anne! Because of your other pic, I have looked in my trees for a nest. I haven't had any luck. I really need to look at my Mom's. They have more hummingbird feeders than I do. :0)
