PIne Siskins are not the flashiest birds of birds but they can sure make a racket. Some years we get quite a number of them visiting at one time. This is the only one I've noticed this winter so far. S/he stayed at the far end of the deck.
One interesting thing to note about Pine Siskins is that they can temporarily store seeds totaling as much as 10% of their body mass in a part of their esophagus called the crop. The energy in that amount of food could get them through 5–6 nighttime hours of subzero temperatures. ref. Cornell Lab of Ornithology
She actually looks soft and warm and happy to be there. Another good one! And...Laurie is the best cook; you should have one of her meals someday. Lucky me!
