As Quick As Lightening

Who knew peanuts were so popular with Blue Jays! I put out a few each day and they only last a minute or two before they're all gone!

Many thanks for dropping by. I appreciate all the amazing comments and fav's.
Great capture. The focus shows the fine detail; and the color is awesome.

Great bird shot as always. Love the detail and colour that you capture. I know they come to your deck, is that very near your windows, they seem to come in very near.

Excellent timing, great focus and nice color. Great shot.
February 12th, 2012
Beautiful close-up. Cardinals love them too, but your Blue Jay looks too fast to beat.
February 12th, 2012
Did you ever observe how they open them? That would be interesting.
February 12th, 2012
My in-laws do the same thing to get them to come to their balcony. Nice capture
February 12th, 2012
Great shot! Again biting off more than he can chew.

@jennywren aww, thanks Jen! Yes, the deck is attached to the house. Other years, i've been able to get some pics while standing on the deck but i haven't been able to do that very much this year. Most of this winter's bird shots have been taken through a window.

@digitalrn Thanks for your support Rick! They just crack them the same way they would a sunflower seed casing. I've read that they will try to carry away two at a time but I haven't seen that yet.

February 13th, 2012
I can't believe you get such clear photos through the window. You must have very clean windows. I'm loving your bluejay and peanut photos! They are so up close and personal. Thank you so much for your wonderful comments on my Rock Harbor boats, both in June and yesterday! Your support and friendship means so much to me.

February 13th, 2012
Amazing capture, that peanut looks huge against the jay :)
February 13th, 2012
You are right, when it comes to peanuts blue jays are like the squirrels. Woodpeckers also enjoy them. What a timely catch! --- Fab capture and a fav.
February 13th, 2012
Fantastic Capture! That is a great action shot, Anne! Years ago, the kids would string peanuts and popcorn on a line and hang it near the feeder. Lots of fun to watch! You have a great touch for capturing the birds!
February 13th, 2012
fabulous shot Anne!! do they crack the shell off so they can get to the inside or do they eat the shell too?
February 13th, 2012
@paulaag thanks paula! they crack them and just eat the seeds inside. i read where sometimes you have to "teach" the birds that there are seeds inside by leaving them cracked open, but not the jays around here! The very first time I put them out, they disappeared in a few minutes.
February 13th, 2012
thanks for the info Anne! i see a few blue jays around here, but have never managed to get a pic of one. maybe i need to buy some peanuts!
February 13th, 2012
Anne, Amazing closeup!
February 14th, 2012
He's so pretty! There is a guy who runs by my house every day throwing peanuts for the squirrels...so I have shells all over my yard but the animals/birds love it!
