The White Breasted Nuthatches hang out with the chickadees and goldfinches at our place. To get to the seed on the railing they usually crawl head first down the side of the house and hop onto the railing from there.
They get their common name from their habit of jamming seeds into tree bark, then whacking them with their sharp bill to “hatch” out the seed from the inside. [ref Cornell Lab of Ornith.]
I reposted the pic and in the process, lost your comment Denise. Here it is: "Excellent capture. I love Nuthatches. The are so fun to watch and you captured this stretch perfectly." Many thanks for your continued support. @denisedaly
Anne - We recently read a story about nuthatches in school, and it mentioned how they hang upside-down and bury the seeds in the cracks of trees. It's nice to see one so "up close and personal"!
Wow, what an up close and perfect capture of this guy! What an awesome pose. I never knew what they were until this year. I love the info you share with your birds!
I am amazed that they come head first down the wall etc. It's nice getting all this info too. Good catch of him in this pose. We do not have any of these birds here so am enjoying seeing them from your great shots.
