Just when we think the winter birds are starting to move on, we get another party going on.
The black squirrel is kind enough to stay at the end of the railing out of the way. The blue jay comes to stuff him/herself silly, then flies off with a full crop and several seeds sticking out of his/her beak. The mourning doves stay put, side by side, eating and eating. I'm pretty sure they are a couple. The four in the foreground are evening grosbeaks - two males [yellow] and two females [grey]. They are the most skittish and disappear at the drop of a hat.
Just love this pretty line of hearty eaters you've got here. The fluffy black squirrel at the end just makes the scene. Total FAV for me. I rarely get to see the grosbeaks, and here you have 4 of them. Bravo! You get the most amazing collection of birds.
I must live in the wrong part of Ontario. We get Blue Jays, Morning Doves, American Finches but not the Evening Grosbeaks. Probably just as well cause I'm sure I would spend all my time at the window watching the birds :-) Great shot. I love it :-)
It's lovely to see a collection of birds from a few thousand miles away. We don't always appreciate what's on our doorstep but it looks like you do and I'm glad you posted this lovely picture
Anne, this is tremendous to see! I love the grosbeaks the most! I noticed the more colorful and magnificent the bird, the more skittish it is, but that makes sense I guess. They camouflaged ones feel safe, but the bright ones feel like bulls eyes! Haha. This is darling! Fav!
