The Duck Unlimited Canada web site says that "Canada geese may be one of the most talkative animals after humans. Goslings, or baby geese, begin communicating with their parents while still in the egg! Once hatched, there is also evidence that they respond differently to different calls and noises from their parents, indicating a sophisticated level of communication." This must have been one noisy nest!
@reva i was wondering the same thing! there were several families this size in the area we were visiting, which is about double the normal family size according to the sites i looked at.
Beautiful family. I'm amazed at the level of communication you describe. They are Canadian but many of them live in Tennessee all year. A one time we didn't see so many of them.
It looks like the whole extended family is going on the outing! This is so adorable! I counted 12 little ones -- have fun on your outing, family!
In a previous job, we had a pair of geese that made a nest in the same spot two years in a row. It was in a row of bushes right under the windows of the building. The management company roped off the parking spaces closest to the nest for them. We laughed that they purposely put the nest under the watchful eyes of a bunch of nurses! The geese stayed on the nest in heat, rain and wind. We kept an eye on them from as close as the dad would let us. He would warn us when we got too close!
