Killdeer by sunnygreenwood

Killdeer

I dropped in on a little butterfly/dragonfly siting excursion and mostly got flower and bird shots. This Killdeer was running along the shore of the river.

I learned today from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology site that while the Killdeer is "a well-known denizen of dry habitats, it is actually a proficient swimmer. Adults swim well in swift-flowing water, and chicks can swim across small streams.

Many thanks for dropping by.
A great capture, such attractive markings, love how is standing on those rocks. He has quite a distinctive head shape and very pointed beak. His eye seems very large too. Not a bird we see here.

Great job capturing him! They can blend in to backgrounds so often that it is hard to get a good shot of one like this!

He's beautiful, Anne. What gorgeous markings and color! I have heard of the Killdeer, but I've never seen one. Your pov is beautiful and love the soft colors from the rocks on down to the water movement. Very tranquil scene.

very photogenic birds, aren't they! I usually see them only on sand though, so it's really interesting to view this one on the rocky waterline.
