Old Lead Mine, Cwmystwyth

Silver, lead and zinc have been mined in the valley of the River Ystwyth since Roman times, an activity that reached its peak in the 18th century. The largest of the very many mines was Cwmystwyth Mine. It is reputed that the average age at death of the miners in Cwmystwyth was 32, largely because of acute lead poisoning.

Steve, you would get some good shots here.
Looks like a grim place to work. Interesting picture though.

Great picture, very evocative, we have old lead workings in Teesdale and Weardale too, the life was horrendous for the workers.

you're right I think I could find something here to pique my interest...!!! Some of these old industrial sites are fascinating (well to me at least!) the history, 32 years old average age of death is incomprehensible.
