Tyneham Village School (as it was in 1943)

Tyneham is a village lost in time. Before the Second World War Tyneham was just one of many small isolated Dorset villages. It's residents led a simple life relying on farming and fishing for their livelihood, oblivious to the future events which would give their home a special place in history.
In 1943 the villagers were moved out by Winston Churchill's War Cabinet prior to the area being used for D-Day preparations. They never returned.
Today the village is part of the Ministry of Defence Lulworth Ranges, accessible to the public only at specified times. I was lucky, today was one of those specified times.
Most of the buildings are just ruins but the school and the church have been preserved. They haven't been used since 1943 but look as if they were used yesterday. The school was not unlike my primary school in the 50's.
If you can read it, one of the coat pegs has the name Violet Cake. What a wonderful name!!
I didn't realise you could get into Tyneham at all, I must watch for opening days. An awful lot of these images are so familiar to the 50s, as you say, and wonderful that the memories have been preserved.

@judithdeacon It's well worth a visit if you ever get the opportunity. Google Tyneham Village to find the website and it will give you dates when the village is open.

Lovely collage. Great that this has been preserved. I can remember having my name by my hook at school too but that was in the 60s so a bit more modern than this, lol!

Great collage, a real step down memory lane, I remember in the 50's sitting a desks like that with those ink wells that always seemed to have a lump of blotting paper in them. (I think the boys had something to do with that
