This is a wonderful award winning museum in Presteigne. Children are allowed to touch things, sit on things, dress up etc.
Back in the day, in rural areas, a circuit judge would cover a very wide area, spending a few weeks, every few months, in the larger towns. Prisoners who had committed serious crimes would be tried and sentenced by him. While in the town he would stay in the Judges Lodgings. The rest of the time only the housekeeper would be there and possibly a magistrate. Upstairs was very grand. The judge would have been well looked after. The kitchens, cellars, servants quarters and the prisoners cells were all downstairs.
