There's a gold mine not far from here where first of all the Romans mined for gold and then many years later the Victorians. Welsh gold is of a high quality but rare and therefore expensive. We had a very interesting tour of the mine, all underground and then the children spent quite some time panning for gold. They loved it and found quite a few specks (although it was iron pyrites).
