Today I went for a long walk along the Brecon and Monmouth canal in the Brecon Beacons National Park with my friend Nicola. As we passed this lock we stood for a while watching two boats going through, one in each direction. It was fascinationg. Canal Locks were invented by Leonardo da Vinci. He was a very clever man!
@happypat@koalagardens@gijsje@snowy@mave@gilbertwood@happysnaps@onewing@sangwann Thank you all for your comments and interest. I find locks an ingenious invention. We stood for ages first of all watching the lock empty so that the first boat could get through and then watching it fill up so the second boat could come the other way. The boats look incredibly narrow but actually they’re quite roomy inside.
@sangwann When we lived in our old house we were privileged to have spotted flycatchers nesting in our garden. They came every year in the spring. That’s why I recognised it straight away. Sadly their numbers are declining everywhere year on year . Such a shame.
