Christmas at Berrington Hall by susiemc

Christmas at Berrington Hall

Berrington Hall was built in the late 1700's during the Georgian period of British History. It has been decorated as it might have been during Georgian times. Christmas trees were not common until Victorian times except in very wealthy homes. The decorations going up the stairs are dried garden flowers and they did look beautiful. The top right picture shows a table of fruit which would have been a Christmas treat. the middle picture shows a yule log being used as a table decoration. Yule logs (usually oak) were brought into the house and burned in the fireplace throughout the twelve days of Christmas. These days we have chocolate yule logs, much more sensible! The bottom right picture shows a table of Christmas presents all wrapped in brown paper but with pretty bows. Very effective.

Five years ago during my first year of 365 I set myself a challenge of uploading a picture which had something to do do with Christmas every day in December. I've decided to do the same again this year.
