A Rather Wet Bedraggled Yellowhammer

Taken late afternoon, it was pouring with rain and the light was poor and I was standing inside the house pointing the camera through the glass of the front door. Not the best conditions for photographing birds but this little male is doing his best.
Considering the conditions, a good shot (which certainly conveys the weather). Haven't seen 'my' yellow hammer for a few days, hope he survived Doris.

Good shot despite the weather, how nice to have him visit you on such a miserable day

Delightful capture :)

Looks a game little fellow despite the weather. We've been fluctuating between damp cold rain and icy freeze...must not be fun to be a bird around here at this time of year.

I didn't know the word yellowhammer; found out the Dutch word: geelgors (geel = yellow). Kind of finch?

@phil_sandford @oldjosh @rosiekind @gilbertwood @gardencat @gijsje @happysnaps @onewing @claireuk Thank you for your lovely comments on this poor little chap. The birds must have been desperately hungry . This picture was taken about 5 o'clock in the afternoon and it had not stopped raining all day. Bep, yellowhammers are actually buntings but they do look like finches, they have a similar beak.
