We were in Greenwich Park today and I saw more of these parakeets than I've ever seen before and I got very excited. Those of you who live in the south east of England probably think I'm bonkers because you'll be used to them but we don't get them in Wales where I live.
We surely don't get them wild here in the States either. What a thrill, I agree, to see them like this. When I was in Brazil several years ago we saw and heard dozens of macaws/parrots in trees. It was unbelievable for me..
Certainly look to me more like a tropical bird, I'd be excited to see them in my area too...but doubt I ever will. Cool capture, love that intense eye.
@aglennc I love tropical birds but I've never been to the tropics so I've never seen them in the wild, although I did go to Australia many years ago and the birds there are stunning. I would love to go to Brazil and see the birds that you saw. Apparently a consignment of these parakeets escaped in the 1970's and they acclimatised and bred and now there are huge numbers of them but only in the south east of England.
@gardencat Thank you Joanne. They do look a bit out of place in England, especially when it's cold and wet.
@happysnaps Thank you Valerie. When I was in Australia in 1994 I so love the parakeets and the cockatoos and I so want to come back and see them again.
@gilbertwood Thank you. This is the closest I can get to your wonderful parakeets and cockatoos until we make that return trip.
