Female Pied Flycatcher Feeding Chicks

We only noticed about a week ago that these pied flycathers were using this nesting box and they obviously have chicks in there. It seems quite late for the young to fledge and then become strong enough to make the journey to the other side of the Sahara Desert in Africa. They're such tiny little birds.

We're very fortunate to have these little summer visitors nesting in our garden. We'll miss them when we move.

How lovely! We had a pair nesting in a coconut shell about 10 years ago and they fledged just hours before I was going to photograph them Fav for this lovely image

@gijsje Thank you Bep. They are very welcome visitors. We have pied flycatchers nesting in the nest boxes and the spotted flycatchers nest in coconut shells. We are lucky to have both..

@rosiekind Thank you Rosie. I think yours may have been spotted flycatchers if they were nesting in a coconut shell. Pied's use nest boxes or holes in trees.

@koalagardens Yes KG, it makes it worthwhile putting them up.
