A Little Bit of Australia in West Sussex

We were at Leonardslee gardens today and were fascinated by a mob of wallabies (I had to google the collective noun for wallabies). They do seem very out of place there but apparently they were introduced in 1889 by Sir Bernard Loder, a previous owner, at a time when the British did crazy things like that. They are thought to be Bennets Wallabies from Tasmania. They are hardy and have acclimatised to the conditions here. They are allowed to roam freely in the park although we didn't see any of those ones, there are too many places for them to hide. This one and others were in an enclosure for breeding pairs.
The wallabies were the highlight of the day. More photos tomorrow.

This guy does look quite content here. It seems strange to see one in the UK but I’ve seen South American Llamas and African Ostriches here in Canada so guess it’s not all that odd.
