04-02 - Well sculpture

In Roermond there are about 30 of such religious sculptures in the public domain. In the past, they were placed near wells (called "puts" in Dutch) that produced water for washing, cleaning etc. They were placed as a protection. It were places where people met. Nowadays "Puts" are community groups which organize activities for the localities.
