When I did my PhD (in 1983) I had to made flowcharts of pieces of the software I wrote to explain its functioning. Luckily, a guy in our department had developed software that made a print of flowchart out of a specification file. Much better than having to start over drawing again when you made an error (or was less accurate) while drawing by hand.
