@adi314 challenged me to try a Profile Pan Shot of a moving vehicle. My first thought was to photograph the commuter rail train that doesn't stop at the depot in my town when it does its express route. That gave me about 60 seconds to get a good shot. None of those were very good.
Next, I moved to a spot where I could get a high vantage point of the highway and use a long lens. I found that to get the desired background and wheel blur, I needed a 1/60 shutter speed while using a 155mm focal length. The traffic goes about 45-50 MPH at this spot.
It also helped to get a vehicle with some good contrast in its markings. Plain white cars still came out blurry. It might have just been my unsteady hand. I had to violate the reciprocal rule for hand-held shots to get the desired blur.
This was the best so far. I might try again later in the week. In the meantime, you know who to call if you need some work done on your house.
@adi314 Thanks for the challenge. I learned a lot with this exercise. The video was very helpful. It is supposed to be warmer later in the week. I might try this with the bicyclists, then.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond and @adi314 Thanks for the kind comments. I just wanted to emphasize that I didn't get it right on the first try. This is the 107th image that I took, yesterday.
