Out Lying in the Yard

Here's my next attempt at my get pushed challenge to create a minimalist high-key photo. I think I got the minimalism in there. The high key, not so much.
@stephomy I overexposed it by one stop. I also tried two stops, but that looked too washed out. I could probably get the right effect in editing, but that might be cheating.

Hi frogger - I like the overexposure - and I'm sure not too many people would consider a little post-processing to be cheating. In fact - probably not too many people post exclusively SOOC images. I wondere if you would mind if I mentioned that the angled horizon unfortunately catches the eye and tends to remove a little of the minimalist effect that you are aiming for? Cheers Rob

@robz Rob, thanks for the suggestion. 365 is such a supportive community, I think people are a little hesitant to offer constructive criticism. I'm glad people are so nice, here, but we won't improve our skills if every comment is, "Great shot!"

Regarding the editing, my local club always makes the point that unless you are doing photojournalism, your job is not to represent what you saw, but to create a photograph. Now that I've ponied up my 20 bucks, I think I'll make a alternates album and post another try at this. Thanks for your comment.

I think I prefer this shot to the second one you did which I find just too over-exposed but not high key.
I find that aiming high with the sky as a background gets great high key effects - or making your own light background with a sheet works well also.
Did you search "high key", highkey, or high-key tags to see examples of what other members have done?

In my book editing is half the fun, not cheating.

You did get the minimalism here. Half the challenge of doing high key, I think is finding the right subject. Have you checked out the high-key tag here? It has a lot of great examples. https://365project.org/tags/high-key

@farmreporter Thanks for the comments, Wendy. I did search externally for high-key. It was mostly about studio portraits. I didn't think to browse tags here. I don't think this is going to be a favorite technique for me, but I appreciate the challenge @stephomy.

I found an effects thing on the dial on my Nikon that has High Key in it and I tried it out to see what it really meant.......fascinatingly high over exposures. Something I have done before is simply use iPhotos own processing thing and pull the light levels way up on an ordinary shot and whack the contrast up a bit too. That seems to work. Fun to play with anyway.

You have super focus here, but I agree with Rob, the tilting horizon does my head in, though I like the light bokeh on it.
