Tim, if you allow me, I would have a few suggestions to try on that one, but of course I do not know if they would work better.
- I would try it in b&W to emphasize the lines and the contrasts since your focus is on lines. I would also try to remake the picture inside a tilted frame like the one I posted on Feb 26th to see what it would look like, I think it could work well with this subject.
- If you stick to the colour picture, I would try to add a small detail that attracts the eye, probably to the upper right. Something like a wood defect or a small coloured something visible on the wood or between the gaps. As it is, your subject is rather smooth and does not tell a story, but would be a good recipient or a good background for one, like a flower hanging from a corner, or somebody peeking behind.
Just my two cents. As you know I have nothing of an expert.

I thought this would look good in B&W, also, but I was disappointed.
Your thoughts about including a contrasting feature are interesting. This is the door to a cabinet where we store towels and sheets. I made a point to shoot from an angle where they didn't show through. It might have been more interesting with some colorful towels behind the lattice.
