Come, sing a song of joy . .

I wish we had sound!! Introducing our magpies - mum and dad, the parents of broken leg, singing for their breakfast. The magpies sing a duet which is not as pure as the butcher bird but is more like carolling. Still a very lovely song. I wanted them to stand closer together but they wouldn't oblige. It was only about 10 to 6 this morning when I took this and not fully light so I had to use the flash. More stuff in the comments
We have been feeding successive generations of this family of magpies for more than 35 years and they are like family to us. I was trying to go a week without taking any bird shots but this was one shot I had been sweating on for a couple of weeks, ever since they got their new plumage and finally got the chance this morning so I had to run with it. I was less than a meter from them and took 3 pics, all with the flash and they didn't blink an eye - never missed a beat.

That is a phenomenal story, Poppo - they are so comfortable with you. I am quite envious. What beautiful birds - such remarkable markings. Love how you caught them serenading you.

That's it, I'm moving to Australia! I want some magpies to carol at my kitchen window for their breakfast! I'm jus tickled pink that I happened to meet you here on 365 and get to enjoy your bird family photos. Can't wait to see more.

lol about a digital clock's inner workings being much less interesting. True! Don't suppose there's too many gears inside anything digital. Thanks for your visits to my macro project.

@tracelee @hermann @landownunder @gigiflower @thresheg @lyndemc @radiogirl @kiscsillag @digitalrn @ubobohobo @gilbertwood Thank you everyone for your comments and favs. I hope everyone got a chance to see my magpie shot in "From the Archives" album. @lyndemc I don't think too many people get a show like this at their kitchen window and don't forget what I said , no mountains no rivers, no snow, blah blah blah

This is a wonderful shot Terry, amazing how they are just standing together carolling,I love waking up to it, also a great commentary from you. Our Magpies are not tame, they seem to get enough food, worms, bugs etc and this morning a mouse. I saw a field mouse scamper past the window outside, next thing heard a bit of a racket, the mouse was breakfast. I make sure all the wildlife has fresh water in the bird bath to drink. We all co exist quite well.
