Had to go back into the city on a overcast and rainy day today so I thought I would try my hand at a B&W shot. The People's Palace is painted predominantly blacks, greys and white anyway so I thought it wouldn't lose much.
Located in the centre of the city, the Peoples Palace was built in 1910 by the Salvation Army as a purpose built temperance hotel and was opened in June 1911. As such, it was not the place to go if you wanted to cut loose on a Saturday night.
In one of those twists of fate, it is now a backpackers hostel with the Down Under Bar located on the ground floor providing alcohol seven days a week under the motto “Go hard or go home”. LOL
Comments welcome on the B&W. Personally, I think God gave us RGB cones in our eyes for a reason.
Magnificent building. I am a fan of b&w photography. It definitely has its place because you see totally different things in b&w than you do in colour and sometimes the b&w make the shot more dramatic.
Would the baloustrades stand out so magnificently in this shot had it been in colour? I am not so sure. Love this photo.
Lovely old building. My grandmother always stayed there when she went to Brisbane for QDO meetings in the 50s & 60s. Close to the station and the city Centre and no dangerous drunks in those Years!
