Most of a Melaleuca has been removed. They are non-native and causing problems. Are you still love the black on them but hated the smell that they could produce.
Your image has these trees looking massive in size and height so I'm going to assume they are just that. Interesting comment shared by Janice about them being non-native, causing problems and producing an unpleasant aroma. None the less, they look impressive in your pic. That blue sky is fantastic!
@janiskay Hi Janice. They are a native to Oz and are certainly one of the more common genus here. I am not too sure what the smell is you refer to. When they are in full flower, they give off a sweet honey smell which is quite pleasant. Well at least all the honeyeaters think so.
oops .hit the wrong button!! I was going to say that i assumed that horizontal position a few times with the help of the amber fluid .(when i was younger of course)
