Played golf at Palm Meadows on the Gold Coast today and took the usual shots of water lily flowers and sweeping vistas of the course. But the real photo opportunities happened at the 19th hole.
We were having a refreshing lager or two and were joined at the table by a magpie who was looking for a handout (corn chips on this occasion) and then by a bearded dragon who was quite happy to wander around at our feet eating corn chips.
He was very fat so corn chips are probably not the best diet for him.
That's just the wildest thing, that these lizards hang out, hoping for a snack. They're rather like our chipmunks here that will practically climb on your plate and help themselves to your meal. Great capture of this chubby dragon. Hope his eating habits don't slay him.
I saw one of these in Brisbane as well and was SO excited!! It was right on South Bank, just hanging out watching people walk by. I like that your capture includes the snacking it is doing.
@lyndemc they do that because people feed them then they get used to it and expect food from everybody. This can become a dangerous practice believe it or not.
I love you capture what I have to say I am not in favor of feeding why life especially in public areas. Sometimes these critters get so used to people feeding them they have no fear of people and they can become aggressive at times. Plus I'm not sure how good that snack is for either one of them.
@janiskay Thanks for that shared thought. Yes, I can see how they'd come to expect treats and develop a bravado that could become threatening. I've held an adult iguana who could hurt you when he slapped you with his tail, and he was a nice guy. An angry dragon could be lethal.
@lyndemc it's not just the lizards I am referring to at the squirrels in the prayer that everyone loves to feed. Squirrels become very aggressive and looking for food after they've been fed for so long. My concern is for the children these girls have been known to jump up on people and they could be rabid the living in the wild as they do.
