I was determined not to have a bird pic today but . . . .
I have had this shot in my mind for ages but it is very difficult to pick the right time when the magpie might decide to come in.
This afternoon I was feeding the butcher birds at the kitchen window when I noticed father magpie in the Poinciana across the road watching us. Got the camera just in case and sure enough, bingo, he flew in.
Very difficult with a small target and a rapidly changing focus. Managed only four shots and this was the best of them.
For O/S 365ers, magpies are notorious for attacking people during nesting season. This is probably the view some people get just before they are smacked on the head with his beak.
Best on black
Skillful shot Terry. Very challenging to get a great shot of a bird coming head on. Perfect contrasting background with the tree. You are a bird magnet!
Fantastic photo, Terry!! Well done. Very well done. I wonder if Kirby or Paige (my Green cheeks) would be willing to let me practice this sort of flight shot with them. Problem is, I'd never had the colorful backdrop that you've got here. Fav'd!
@laetitiapetrussa Hi Laetitia. Australian Magpies are not at all related to the magpies you get in Europe. Here they are a much more aggressive carnivorous bird. The first English called them magpies simply because they were black and white like yours.
