I have been able to do this for a few days now but today was the first time I had a half decent chance of getting photos of it.
He allowed me to scratch his tummy for ages before some squawking in the backyard by another bird caught his attention and he turned around and was on alert. Never mind, I then scratched his back for a while before he flew off to investigate the disturbance.
This is not Wun Bung Ai and I am now convinced that the bird that has been coming down recently is a different bird. I noticed a couple of times today when he was feeding that occasionally his eye rolls back and looks white which fooled me into thinking it was Wun Bung Ai.
This one is now called "Scruffy" since his feathers are a mess.
Wow, great shot. How did you do this? You managed two things: you whispered the bird (in swiss-german wie call him "Lachender Hans" = Laughing John) and by the way had to either set up a remote realease system or you shot sinistral? Emotional and technical superb! Fav
Fabulous Terry!! I am so blown away by this!! To actually have the bird allow you to stroke it is amazing and then to get a shot of it - Wow double whammy!! Huge Fav!! I want to have your garden!! LOL!!
Fantastic capture Terry, wonderful detail and lighting, well done to train Scruffy the wild Kookaburra, when can we expect to see Skippy your wild Kangaroo, LOL:)
A kookaburra is on my to do list to try and capture. I might as well just come to your house for the afternoon and all of my bird shots can be done, including the kooka!! How wonderful this is Poppo to be able to be this close :)
I want to sing Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, but I guess i can't as he's practically sitting on your hand! Fav for the photo and the achievement :)
Get out! This is totally fantastic!! And you're right, you are definitely The Bird Whisperer. A Fav as a thumbs-up for your good fortune and the bird's intelligence in knowing a good guy when he sees one.
Fabulous shot, you are definitely a kooka whisperer. No wonder he is tame when you feed him all the time. He will probably do somersaults if you feed him raw meat too.
