Huntsman spiders love to hide down in the leaves of the bromeliads and quite often I'll be cleaning the leaves and the spiders will get spooked and leap, and I do mean leap, out and take off, scaring the c..p out of me - especially when they madly race across your hand on their way to safety.
This one ended up sitting on one of the leaves for a pic before he raced off
I wish people would stop posting spider shots I keep thinking they will jump out of my computer!! I'd love to sing Incy Wincy Spider but he's way to scary for that :)
Isn't he beautiful. Although you probably won't agree if he scared the life out of you. One leapt at me once when I was taking a photo. Still breathing!!!
Oh my goodness going off your garden fast!! I would be running round the garden screaming if I saw this yet alone if it ran across my hand!! Not good with spiders anyway and I have heard about this one!!
Tho I'm not freaked out by spiders, I would have to think that after having this giant thing run across my hand in its escape would definitely make my heart skip a beat or two. You though, you grab your camera and take a steady picture.
Oh no, Terry, I nearly jumped out of my skin! being an arachnophobe, I had to quickly scroll down till your pic was out of sight. But I'm sure it's an excellent shot!
Great macro !! I like spiders (not on me or in the house) but for their webs on a heavy dew morning for photography and also they eat other unwanted bugs out there.
@lyndemc Especially Denise when your mind is away on other things and suddenly this bloody big huntsman is on you. Yes, your heart does skip a beat - or two - or three
He is one big boy! I'd be all right as long as I saw him before he saw me - I hate surprises - I'd be trying for a shot, too. You got an impressive one especially since you knew their habits!
Well that's definitely a spider. I like how you focused so crispy on all eight of his eyes! A worthy goal. I normally don't get too freaked out by these guys either, but I'm pretty sure that if I was surprised by one of these traversing my hand I'd be wishing I had my diaper underwear on.
Nice photo Terry. I had to look up more info after seeing all the comments. I can see why these would create a bit of a fright! Not sorry we don't have them around here.
@terryliv It's that way when a snake suddenly appears in the weeds or leaves I'm pulling out from around some plant; startles me terribly at first but then I'm off and running for the camera, calling "Stay there, Mr. Snake, until I get my camera!"
