My Second Bald Eagle by terryliv

My Second Bald Eagle

We saw one of these in Alaska a couple of years ago.
This b......d lives in the trees near Rohan's house and I swear he knew when we had the camera in hand and when we didn't. We could wait for him for ages and he wouldn't appear and then as soon as we put it down, he would do a couple of fly bys which sent everyone scrambling and by the time we were ready, he would disappear. So after 2 weeks, this is as good as I could manage.
Left this shot till last to give everyone time to forget about the excellent shot of the eagle that Milanie posted.
It is still wonderful Terry!! I had never seen an eagle in the wild until I went to Nova Scotia this year and I was so excited when I finally saw one. When I managed to get some photos I was shaking with excitement!! So wonderful to watch them flying!! Fav!

Looks ok to me Terry.I think the shine on the lens makes them nervous.

That's a pretty good looking seagull! Pretty funny reads you gave us there. They've made a huge comeback in North America in recent years. It used to be you never saw any in the lower 48, but now they're found in most all of the U. S. these days. I still get thrilled whenever I am able to see one in the wild. On this summer's motorcycle trip we were in Montana heading up to Canada and we had one flying over us as we were rolling up the road, the first time I'd ever seen one in flight.

Don't know if you are aware of Ben Franklin's huge opposition to designating the bald eagle as nation's symbol back during its formation. A common misconception is that he wanted a turkey instead of the bald eagle - wouldn't that be appropriate! In truth he considered the bald eagle not to be a noble bird, claiming it was just a scavenger that would steal the food that other birds had hunted, claiming that a turkey was a more honorable hunter. He lost that one though.

@terryliv Thanks for the major case of LOL, both from your commentary and the article about your Wedgie Eagle and our yellow-beaked seagull. I have the honor of seeing our regal Bald Eagle now almost every time I venture out. They're definitely making a comeback in the area.
