Saw Plenty of This Yesterday

Taken around Taree about 250kms north of Sydney. I always like road shots. They give an idea of what the journey was really like rather than just the highlights reel of the attractions that may have been the objective of the journey (if that makes sense). This is all part of Highway 1 that another 365er has already described that circumnavigates Oz and at 14,500kms, is the longest national highway in the world. However, O/S 365ers should not think for one second that it all looks like this. Much of it is a national disgrace and I usually refer to it as Goat Track 1 GOM!!!!
Nice shot. Know this feeling. When we travel between NSW and Melbourne there is an awful lot of this. When we first moved to NSW from Melbourne 20 years ago that journey was mostly goat track too. Don't you just love it when you hit the Hume Highway and the sat nav says continue straight for 350 km.

Well, this part looks quite pleasant, although mind you, you're on the wrong side of the road. Does this mean you're safely home again now?

Great catch, hope you weren't in the driver's seat 8-)

I agree with Denise...............something looks wrong, your driving on the wrong side of the road!!

Nice shot Terry, the scenery looks very pretty!

Excellent! Thanks for all the info.

Looks like a beautiful day for a road trip.

This is a great shot. I always take road shots for the same reason as you. I like capturing these parts of the trips as well as the attractions.

Well your picture worked, it makes me want to be on that road and see what is up over the hill, and still enjoying what I can see right now. Great shot.

It's beautiful scenery, but all that driving, wow, not for me. I need a lot of breaks

Nice scenery :-)

Such sparse traffic! Here in Southern California in that same space there would be ten times as many vehicles, at least two crashes, one shooting, and at least one high speed police chase. Enjoy the relative solitude.

@stray_shooter . . .And that's why we live in Oz Ron
April 23rd, 2014
Wow, things have changed since I travelled that road.
April 23rd, 2014
@stray_shooter I should have also added that there are a number of stretches of Highway 1 where, when you meet an on-coming car/truck, you feel compelled to wave to them - no joking. The traffic can be pretty thin at times. Just after you cross the Qld border into the Northern Territory, there is a sign that says "Barkly Roadhouse 269kms, Stuart Highway 430kms" or numbers like that. In other words after 430kms, the best we have to offer, apart from a petrol station, is another highway.

@landownunder Hi Denis, Yes there have been quite a few new sections of proper highway opened up in the last couple of years and it is now a much better trip than it was back 5 years. There are still a number of bad sections (through Coffs Harbour STILL!!!!!) but I didn't want to show them to our O/S 365ers.

Great shot like your pov :)

Nice commentary too Poppo..

@onewing @lyndemc @tonydebont @radiogirl @dianeburns @sabanford @annepann @tahoemb @vegansusan @digitalrn @hermann @tellefella @ibt Thanks everyone. We both enjoy long road trips. So much to see although we have done the Brisbane - Sydney trip so often we just about know every corner. I tried to invert the picture so our Nth American friends would feel more comfortable but couldn't work out how to do it. Ha ha ha

@stray_shooter Sorry Ron, I should have also added a very loud LOL
April 23rd, 2014
Great capture! Have only driven that section once and loved it. It certainly looks in much better shape than the part of Highway 1 that runs down here in Warrnambool. Love Ron's comment :)
April 23rd, 2014
@gilbertwood Thanks Denise. The section around Warrnambool is far far better than the remaining 2 lane sections between Bris and Sydney and infinitely better than 90% of the Bruce Hwy between Brisbane and Cairns.
