Larger than life

This morning we cleaned one of the nest boxes and I found this abandoned nest and egg. We have a lot of magpies in the garden and they obviously scared the parents away.
The real egg is no bigger than 1 cm.

Great shot! Do magpies do what cowbirds do here? That is lay eggs in another birds nest and expect the other birds to feed the chicks?
