huge number of these Monolepta australis beetles this year, I don't think this hibiscus bulb is going to make it but it makes an interesting image. no theme @koalagardens
Great to revisit past themes! Has the beetle damaged the bud?

@365anne you can see holes being chewed all through the bud and the way the stamen has drooped, I'm thinking it's all over ...

@koalagardens the hibiscus definitely looks as if it has seen better days but it’s a great Wabisabi photo and the detail on the bug is superb

@shutterbug49 yeah they are a native so part of the ecosystem (which the hibiscus is not lol) so some spiders, wasps, parasites and larger beetles will predate on them
