The Missus and I are volunteers at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach. We meet a lot of really nice people and show them the very cool aircraft we get to hang around.
This is the Supermarine Spitfire, one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built. It is sleek and graceful on the ground, and even more so in the air. It was instrumental in the Royal Air Force's victory over the Nazi Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain (although the Hawker Hurricane was the true workhorse of that battle).
The Spitfire, along with the Museum's Hurricane and DeHavilland Mosquito, were supposed to fly today in honor of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Britain, but very high and gusty winds kept them on the ground.
