The Missus and I were out meandering through the area northeast of where we live when we saw this big, beautiful oak, just outside the town of Tappahannock, Virginia. I knew instantly that this was my tree. I will be back to visit it frequently to photograph it during different seasons, weather and light.
@dutchothotmailcom@tinley23@amyk@annepann@monikozi Thank you all for the comments! I have lived in Virginia for 3.5 years and my job (I've recently retired) required me to drive all over the state. I was always looking for a stately tree to shoot since there was one about an hour from my house in Ohio. I was able to shoot it in many seasons from more or less the same spot. Like I said in the caption, I knew the instant I saw it that this was it. Remarkably, there is a cut-through on this divided highway that is big enough to pull into and park relatively* safely. It allows me to stand right where I need to get this shot.
*I say relatively because as a career paramedic, I've seen the results of drunk and, increasingly, distracted drivers. So while I'll be getting repeat shots, I'm regrettably not going to be hanging out there admiring it.
I really wish you a happy, enjoyable and relaxing retirement. And i really wish you will have the chance to enjoy the tree as well, as much as possible.
