I went in search of a photo as sunset was nearing. My 'go to' spot in these situations is the Dutch Gap Conservation Area, because it is more or less a sure thing for wildlife.
The conservation area is set right next to Dominion Energy's Chesterfield Power Station. As you enter the conservation area you have woods and wetlands on one side of the road, the power station and its resulting coal ash pits on the other.
As I drove in I saw this pair behind the power station's chainlink fence. You can't see it here, but the doe is very small and the fawn is seriously tiny. Given the proximity to my picture of May 22nd, just a hair over two weeks ago, it's possible this is the same doe from that shot that the Missus noted was with child.
They stood still and watched me, and let me take as many shots as I wanted, as long as I stayed in the cab of my truck. The fawn got a bit restless after about 20 seconds and started browsing around, but that was more than enough time for me to get a lot of pictures. I was really happy when I got home to see that my camera had focused on the deer, not the fence for the majority of the pictures.
