The Missus and I visited Maymont, a 100 acre historical estate built by a late 19th century railroad magnate. The mansion and gardens are preserved and open to visitors. The grounds also house a nature center, where injured or orphaned animals that cannot be re-wilded have a forever home.
Maymont's Japanese garden, the largest one on the east coast, has an enormous koi pond. And when I say that, it is in the sense that both the pond and the koi are enormous. The pond really is like a small fishing lake and the koi are as big as a medium-sized house cat.
@jon_lip That's the most likely reason for their unusual size ("But what about the GOUSs?" "Goldfish Of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist")
