Warhawk and Texan by timerskine

Warhawk and Texan

The Missus and I volunteer at the Military Aviation Museum. Each Saturday during the summer we have a program called 'Summer of Flight' where one of our planes is showcased with a brief lecture and a flight demonstration. It's super cool and very popular.

This week's plane was the Curtis P-40 Warhawk. This was the fighter plane made famous by the "Flying Tigers" (officially, the American Volunteer Group, American pilots flying for China in its fight against Japanese invaders during WWII before Pearl Harbor).

I was monitoring the flight line, making sure none of the guests went into a dangerous area. I couldn't stop to take a lot of pictures but I was able to use my pocket camera to grab this shot of the Warhawk as it took off.

The plane parked on the ramp is a North American SNJ "Texan", an advanced trainer from WWII used to train pilots for the US Navy. The US Army Air Force gave it the designation AT-6 (but kept the Texan name) and the British Commonwealth called it "Harvard."
Cool shot, one on the ground and one in the air!
