Sutton Park is a huge urban park just 7 miles from the centre of Birmingham. It has 7 lakes, a golf course, a donkey sanctuary, a Roman road, lots of ancient heathland and woodland, and a good visitor centre. Until Tudor times it was a royal forest and used for hunting deer. Legend has it that a local woman saved Henry Vlll from a boar attack, so he gave the park to the residents of Sutton Coldfield. Nowadays it is regularly used for cattle grazing and a number of wild Exmoor ponies roam fairly freely.
A lovely collage of this great park and fascinating info too. I didn't realise there were ponies in there, how nice to see them. Sounds like you had a lovely time there.
