My aunt gave me this book when I was a naive, young, first-time mother, back in the late 70s. It was invaluable to me at the time, so I saved it to give to my daughter when/if she had her first child....then the internet happened, so I kept it, as it seems so simple and unscientific compared to what’s out there now.
I think the simple solutions are best, although I had to laugh when I read a book given me by the baby clinic in the 1970s when I had my first daughter. It had a schedule for the day which included, bath baby, feed baby, put baby down for sleep, do housework, etc and then came 'mother's rest period' I think I was short-changed because my daughter never slept more than 4 hours in 24 and I didn't get a rest period until she started school. ha ha.
@onewing hahaha yes, strict routines are impossible with babies. I remember one doctor telling me to put the pram at the bottom of the garden and turn on the vacuum cleaner so you can’t hear them crying, until it was time for their next feed!!
@wakelys It has gone from almost no written info in the past to waaaaaay too much online, conflicting advice. Equally difficult nowadays for new mothers, I think.
Oh yes & how we scoured those books....read so much, every different chapter in every stage! Mine was by a woman called Penelope Leach. Fancy remembering her name 59 years later! Those books made big impressions on us amateur mothers!
