I’ve been trying to get this pretty fish to stand out a bit more from it’s background, but just can’t get it right. I’ve tried Snapseed and PicMonkey so far. I’d be grateful for any other suggestions.
There isn't much you can do really to make the busy background disappear. If you blurred the background it wouldn't look right. You could lighten the whole picture and that would possibly make it look clearer, or if you have Photoshop you could use the quick selection tool to highlight the fish and then just lighten that but I think it looks fine as it is.
Not easy to capture fish and taking photos through glass is always difficult, but I think you have done a good job here.
I agree that your picture is very fine as it is. But if you have Windows 10, did you try Windows Photo on it ? I just tried it quickly on your picture, using the Enhance photo filter and then the Vignette function, and I think I got a bit of the effect you are looking for.
