I had never heard of the River Otter before so looked it up to see where it is.
Brought to mind a fair we went to in the UK many years ago. There was a large tent at the fair and out side the tent was a sign that said 'come in and see the amazing water otter' We paid our 10p to enter and inside saw a whistle kettle on a primus stove. Everyone came out laughing and nobody said what was in there. The money collected was for charity, so it was well worth 10p for the laugh. Someone at the fair had a brilliant sense of humour.
@onewing Oh my, that’s so funny. Some of these old villages really do have some strange traditions. Ottery Saint Mary, where my son and his family live now, have some of the weirdest ones. Tar Barrels, for instance... https://www.tarbarrels.co.uk/
