40 Saint Mihiel American Cemetery

The 1918 Battle of Saint-Mihiel, from September 12th to 15th, was the first independent battle of the American Expeditionary Force in the First World War.

Having helped the French at Belleau Wood in the Second Battle of the Marne, it was agreed that the American First Army should establish its headquarters in the Saint-Mihiel sector and prepare to free the Saint-Mihiel salient.

St. Mihiel American Cemetery is located on Route de Verdun, Thiaucourt.
