Four generations of my family celebrated Mother's Day together today. My grandaughters cooked their Mum and me a late breakfast then we went down to the creek so the little ones could play in the clean, fresh sand left by the floods. It was too cold to swim but they enjoyed the sand and plopping rocks. The bigger ones skipped their stones across the water and had fun taking photographs with grandma's camera.
When I did get my hands back on my camera I became mesmorized by this praying Mantis and a colony of aphids on a milkweed plant growing on the water's edge. Once he was aware of my lens pointed constantly in his direction this performer began to move and pose, move and pose, This was one of the better shots I got of his antics.
This is a great picture of a Praying Mantis. I remember as a child when I found one in a bush and insisted that my mom come see the little green man I found rubbing his hands. Yours is grey but with the exception of an extra pair of leg and and long tail stll looks a little like a very skinny man.
I've tried numerous times to photograph praying mantises(I don't even know if that is spelt right) but they never come out.
Did you have to crop this pic much?
It looks like he is staring right at you!!
