Stone Layers

Same Shape ... my shapes are natural shapes that form layers. Today I'm featuring a stone whose intriguing layers have created this interesting image. Looks to me like an ancient carving of a human face.
However it's at moments like this I wish I was a geologist and knew exactly what I was looking at. The broad layers are like sandstone and are softer than the narrow, darker layers which sometimes seem to contain quartz. Maybe there's a rock hound out there who can help me out.
Interesting shot and stone.

Wow, what a great find! ( I am not a professional), but enjoy collecting odd rocks, and sometimes find fossils in my endeavors...just an educated guess, but this looks like a piece of petrified ancient tree bark, and or the petrified stalks of an ancient plant that became embedded in sandstone!....it is very interesting and exciting!! Great find!!, thank you for sharing this!!

Amazing. As a little girl I would spend hours on the beach collecting pretty/patterned/interesting stones. Still do now. I was always fascinated. Still am!
